Innovation Stories | Code BGP: Contributing to a safer internet

Published February 21, 2024

Code BGP, a spin-off of the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), was founded in 2021 with the main objective of providing SaaS solutions in relation to automation, visibility and security on the Internet. Code BGP’s approach offers a network administrator a practical way to detect and counter, in real-time, malicious attacks and works complementary to RPKI – a service that provides security for Internet routing. Combined, the two approaches can provide more comprehensive proactive (RPKI) and intrusive (the Code BGP approach) protection against Internet address hijacking attacks . It is state of the art in terms of speed, completeness and accuracy of detection, exploiting both external and local information.

The Code BGP approach contributes to a safer Internet as:

  • It offers a network administrator a practical way to detect and counter, in real time, attacks aimed at violating BGP.
  • It works complementary to RPKI. Combined, the two approaches can provide more comprehensive proactive (RPKI) and intrusive (the Code BGP approach) protection against IP address harvesting attacks.
  • This is the state of the art in terms of speed, completeness and accuracy of detection, exploiting both external and local information.

Completing two years since its establishment, Code BGP, having created a strong team of young and talented people, already counts more than 20 successful pilot tests with international companies and organizations, while officially cooperating with the Ministry of Digital Governance, actively contributing to maintaining the security and reliability of the Greek Internet.
