STEP-C as a EURAXESS Contact Point
The Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEP-C) operates as a EURAXESS Contact Point, offering comprehensive support services to researchers from Greece and abroad, before, during, and after their relocation.
Services Provided
- Employment and Funding Opportunities
Provision of information on job openings, research fellowships, and funding programs in Greece and across Europe through the EURAXESS Jobs Portal. - Information and Support for Incoming and Outgoing Researchers
Guidance on practical matters such as residence and work permits (visas), housing, healthcare, education, family support, and social security.
STEP-C provides assistance both to Greek researchers moving abroad and to foreign researchers coming to Greece. - Networking and Collaboration
Facilitation of connections among researchers, academic institutions, research centers, and industry at local, national, and international levels. - Career Development
Advice and guidance on career planning, skills development, and participation in European initiatives for researchers. - Social and Cultural Integration
Support for the social and cultural integration of researchers and their families into the local community, including assistance with administrative procedures.

What is EURAXESS
EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion is an initiative of the European Commission that aims to support the mobility, professional development, and international collaboration of researchers.
Through the EURAXESS network, researchers and research organizations have access to information and services related to:
- Job opportunities and research positions in Europe and worldwide
- Funding programs and research grants
- Residence, visa, employment, taxation, and social security issues
- Practical information for settling into a new country and research environment

FORTH and the HR Excellence in Research Award
The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) has received the HR Excellence in Research award from the European Commission (2023), recognizing its commitment to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
This distinction highlights FORTH’s ongoing efforts to:
- Improve working conditions and career development for researchers
- Ensure transparency and merit-based recruitment processes
- Promote equal opportunities, ethics, and inclusiveness
- Encourage continuous professional and personal growth among its researchers
The HRS4R Strategy at FORTH
FORTH implements the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) with the goal of creating a transparent, supportive, and participatory research environment.
The strategy focuses on policies that enhance excellence, equality, mobility, and ethical conduct in research.
HRS4R Governance Structure
The implementation and monitoring of the HRS4R Action Plan are supported by a unified Governance Structure, which includes:
- Working Group: Responsible for the development and execution of the Action Plan
- Steering Committee: Oversees progress and ensures consistent application of HRS4R principles
- Collaboration with institutional committees such as the Ethics Committee, the Gender Equality Committee, and the Data Protection Committee, as well as with the Researchers’ Union and the Employees’ Union
The participation of all these bodies ensures transparency, fair representation, and continuous improvement of FORTH’s internal processes.
